Baseball: Players of the Week Thru 4/5

Berks I

Zach Heffner (Daniel Boone)

The Blazers are out to an early 4-1 start, led in large part by timely hitting and great pitching.  Heffner, a senior who is committed to IUP, tossed a complete game no hitter against Red Lion on April 1st.  Heffner also struck out 10 during his impressive outing.

Berks II

David Gerhart (Conrad Weiser)

The Scouts have gotten off to a perfect start. They currently sit at 4-0 and are one of just two unbeaten teams in Berks County (Twin Valley).  David Gerhart has been a major spark for Weiser, both on the mound and at the plate.  Gerhart struck out 7 over 6 and 2/3 innings to beat a heavily favored Mifflin team last Monday.  How did the senior follow up that performance?  Gerhart drove in all four of the Scouts runs on Saturday in a win over Muhlenberg.

Berks III

Eric Hartranft (Tulpehocken)

The Hartranft’s are a big reason why the Trojans sit atop the Berks III standings.  Eric Hartranft is currently 2-0 on the mound and has struck out 23 batters.  In addition to his dominance when toeing the rubber, Hartranft has also been a force at the plate.  On the young season, Eric has a grand slam home run and 9 RBI.
