Lady Bulldogs Rally Past Warriors

Wilson Girls IntroWith PIAA Class AAAA advancement on the line, Wilson faced the Methacton at Garden Spot High School in New Holland, Pennsylvania. As the District III-AAAA title-holder, the Lady Bulldogs looked to continue their streak with a win over the Warriors during State Tournament contingency.

Methacton struck first with a 2-0 lead over Wilson with 6:00 remaining in the first quarter. However, Avery Marz’ early three-pointer awarded Wilson with crucial momentum. Methacton’s Jenna Carrol landed a three-pointer to beat the buzzer, drawing within 1 point of the Wilson lead.

During Methacton’s first offensive drive of the second quarter,  Carrol hit for another three-pointer. However, on the next offensive play, Wilson’s Marz responded with a three-pointer of her own.  With 6:30 remaining in the first half, the Bulldogs held a 14-11 lead over the Warriors. Methacton closed in on the Wilson lead with under 4:00 remaining, just 3 points behind the Bulldogs. However, a Shannon O’Brien three pointer buzzer-beater, propelled Wilson into a 25-19 lead over the Warriors at halftime.

At the end of three, Wilson drew to an 8 point lead, their largest. After three, the Bulldogs lead 39-31.

Wilson Girls vs WarriorsLooking for a late rally, Methacton entered the fourth quarter with strong offensive play. Carrol’s 3 point play tied the game at 45-45 with 1:50 remaining. Wilson’s Carley Brew held off the Warrior attack and drew the late foul. After a missed attempt and a Warrior timeout, Methacton had a scoring opportunity with under 30 seconds left in the game. The Warriors couldn’t capitalize on the drive and was forced to foul. At the line again, Brew missed her first attempt and cashed in on the second. Final score: Wilson 44-43 with a close win over the Methacton Warriors.

Brew finished with 14 points for the Bulldogs; meanwhile, Marz offered 13 and Ivory Bailey landed 8.

Wilson faces Abington on Tuesday during second round play.
