The Lady Bulldogs of Wilson High School squared off with underdog Hempfield on Friday evening at Garden Spot High School. Coach Doug Myer and the Wilson girls came in riding a 13 game winning streak. Meanwhile, the Hempfield Lady Black Knights were riding high after an upset win over Cedar Crest.
The Lady Bulldogs, led by the defensive efforts of Avery Marz and Jessie Wallace, were able to convert on fast breaks to open up an 11-0 lead in the first quarter. At the conclusion of the first, the Lady Bulldogs held a 15-4 advantage.
The second quarter went much like the first for both teams. Wilson continued to force turnovers on their way to a 31-11 halftime lead.
The Lady Bulldogs continued their dominance in the third quarter, opening up the second half on a 12-0 run before emptying the bench for substitutions. With primarily underclassmen playing the remainder of the game, the Wilson girls were able to claim a 59-29 victory.
Hempfield was led in scoring by Julianna Clark, who posted a team-high 12 points.
