In the second game during Saturday’s double-header at Muhlenberg, No. 4 Berks Catholic and No. 5 Conrad Weiser squared off. After Tuesday’s loss to Berks Catholic, the Scouts walked into tonight’s Berks Girls Basketball League quarterfinals rematch with something to prove.
The Saint’s Katrina Balatgek struck with an early three-pointer in the first quarter. Hannah Racis’ 6 point first quarter pushed the Scouts with a 12-11 lead over Berks Catholic.
Racis continued to fight, drawing 14 points over the Lady Saints at the end of the second quarter of play. However, Berks Catholic stayed in reach of the lead during the second quarter battle. Conrad Weiser held 25-21 over the Saints at the end of two.
It was anyone’s game at the start of the second half, and the third quarter offered great back-and-forth action between the No.4 Berks Catholic and No. 5 Conrad Weiser teams. Devon Merritt’s strong presence in the third quarter brought the Lady Saints within three points the lead. The Scout’s were still up 36-33 over Berks Catholic at the end of three.
Berks Catholic needed a surge in the fourth quarter, and that’s exactly what they got. Merritt continued to strike big for the Lady Saints and rallied the team for a close 49-45 win over Conrad Weiser.
Merritt finished with a game-high 19 points and 8 rebounds, while Weiser’s Hannah Racis poured in a team-best 18 for the Scouts.
With Saturday’s win, Berks Catholic meets Wilson during BCIAA semifinals action on Tuesday at the Santander Arena.
