On Friday night at Santander Arena, No.1 seed Wilson will take on No.2 seed Berks Catholic in the BCIAA Boys Championship game.
Tale of the Tape:
Record: 22-2 overall, 10-0 in Berks I
Current Streak: 6 wins
Starting 5: F Matt Timochenko (8.5 PPG), F Kyle Watkins (5.5 PPG), G/F Jaylin Calloway (11.3 PPG), G Sam Smith (10.1 PPG), Travaun Coad (15.8 PPG)
The Bulldogs have not won a county championship since 2007. In five of the last six years, they have been eliminated by Berks Catholic, Holy Name, or Central Catholic.
Wilson’s starting lineup features five seniors. Among those seniors, Travaun Coad may be the best guard in the county. Coad is complimented nicely by Calloway and Smith, who are both great three point shooters. Lately, both Timochenko and Watkins have been playing well down low, however, they will have their hands full trying to guard the Saints’ 6’9″ Nana Foulland.
No.2 Berks Catholic
Record: 21-3 overall, 10-0 in Berks II
Current Streak: 16 wins
Starting 5: C Nana Foulland (21 PPG), F Connor Jack (10.7 PPG), G Cooper Kutz (5.2 PPG), G Pop Lacey (5.9 PPG), G Isaac Lutz (7.1 PPG)
Since Holy Name and Central Catholic merged three summers ago, the Saints have never dropped a game within the county. They have won back-to-back BCIAA championships and are looking to add a third trophy to their collection.
The Saints have the size and athleticism to compete with anyone. While they may be the lower seed heading into the championship game, they should not be viewed as such. As of late, teams have been double and triple teaming Nana Foulland, which leaves open shots on the perimeter for their guards.
