In the first league matchup of the 2013-2014 Berks County boys basketball season, Berks Catholic traveled to Fleetwood to battle the Tigers.
The Saints welcomed back several key players who had previously been unable to participate due to the Saints long run into the state playoffs in football. Pop Lacey, Cooper Kutz, and Chris Warren made their season debuts in the Berks Catholic starting lineup.
The Saints, aided by their strong man defense and transition game, jumped out to an early 7-0 lead that they never relinquished. The visiting Saints held an 18-11 lead after the first quarter, led by Nana Foulland who was a force all night long.
The Tigers bigs were unable to establish a post presence against Foulland and fellow Saint Connor Jack.
Despite a strong late push by the Tigers, the Saints were able to hold off Fleetwood and win by a final score of 66-42.
Leading the way for the Saints was Nana Foulland, who finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Chris Warren and Connor Jack each finished with 13 as well. Meanwhile, Matt Hook paced the Tigers with 14 points and 6 rebounds.
The Saints improve to (2-1, 1-0) on the season, while the Tigers fall to (0-1, 0-1). The Saints will next play at Trinity on Wednesday, while Fleetwood travels to Oley Valley (1-0) Tuesday.
