Scouts Set for Semifinal Matchup With McDevitt

When we first met Conrad Weiser coach Alan Moyer, it did not take long for the veteran head coach to mention Bishop McDevitt.  However, Bishop McDevitt was not listed on Conrad Weiser’s schedule, yet.  In the back of his mind, Coach Moyer already knew that the Crusaders would be standing in his way of a District 3 AAA championship.  Friday night, Coach Moyer and the Scouts will head to Harrisburg to battle the Crusaders.

The Crusaders are coming off a win over fellow Berks team Muhlenberg by a final count of 55-21.  McDevitt used a balanced offensive attack to get by the Muhls, as well as just about anyone else they have confronted this season.  On the ground, the Crusaders have a tandem of Division I caliber running backs.  Senior Rashad Lawson, who rushed for 94 yards and 3 touchdowns last week and junior Andre Robinson, who ran for 155 yards and a touchdown.  Despite being only a junior, Robinson has received scholarship offers from Boston College, Maryland, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Syracuse, and Virginia Tech.  Robinson is currently listed as the #7 recruit in the state of Pennsylvania for 2015.  In the passing game, junior Nick Marsilio has had a way of finding star sophomore receiver Kobay White early and often.  So far White has been offered by Temple, but you can expect many more offers to roll in over the coming years.

The Scouts defense will face what is likely their toughest challenge yet on Friday.  However, they are yet to surrender a point so far in district playoffs, posting two consecutive shutouts.  The confidence is spreading like wildfire throughout the Scouts locker room.  Dexter Jordan, who may be Berks County’s top shutdown corner, will face the daunting task of slowing down Kobay White.  Meanwhile, it will be up to senior leaders like Malik Shivers, Nash Gregro, and Aaron Sadowski to contain the strong Crusaders rushing attack.

We believe that the Scouts will give the Crusaders just about all they can handle on Friday night, but even that may not be quite enough.  Here’s to hoping we’re wrong.

Prediction: Bishop McDevitt 34, Conrad Weiser 27
