The boys of Berks Catholic will be looking to bring home the gold for the first time in school history when they battle Littlestown at Hersheypark Stadium on Saturday. The Saints will put their perfect 12-0 record on the line in the District 3 AA finals against another perfect squad in the Thunderbolts.
The Thunderbolts are led by senior QB Trevor Hildebrand, who has thrown for 1252 yards and 9 touchdowns this season. The Thunderbolts will also likely be dependent on senior RB Dustin DeGroft, who has 1154 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns. Garrett Trout has caught 39 passes for 736 yards and 7 touchdowns, all of which are team-bests.
The Saints will certainly have their hands full on Saturday. They will need to be as strong as ever defensively in order to stop the Bolts. They will need to get pressure on Hildebrand and contain the running attack. It all starts up front for the Saints, who feature one of the best defensive lines in Berks County, led by the likes of Pietro Gaspari, Kobe Foy, and Tynan DeShields. The secondary, which is anchored by Chris Warren, Cooper Kutz, Matt Kase, Blake and Isaac Lutz will need to be able to shut down Garrett Trout.
All in all, this will be a tough test, but the Saints are as good a team as any. Look for them to move the ball offensively, as well as being able to slow down the Bolts.
Prediction: Berks Catholic 27, Littlestown 21
