Yocum, Lutz Too Much As Eagles Power Past Pottsville

The Exeter Eagles found themselves slipping down the District 3 Power Rankings two weeks ago after their loss to Muhlenberg, but that may have sparked something.  The Eagles righted the ship last week when they dealt Twin Valley a 35-7 loss.

This week the Eagles traveled to Pottsville in what would be a tough matchup.

The Eagles jumped out to an early 13-0 lead on a 5 yard rushing touchdown and a 72 yard touchdown pass by Chase Yocum.  The pass went to senior playmaker Ethan Lutz.

The Crimson Tide would then find the endzone on a 32 yard touchdown pass from Tyler Moser to Travis Blankenhorn, cutting the lead to 13-7.

The Eagles would add one more score before the half, this time on an 8 yard touchdown run by Chase Yocum.  After a failed two-point conversion, the Eagles took a 19-7 lead into the half.

Pottsville got the scoring started in the second half as Brett Vandermeer scored from a yard out, cutting the lead to 19-13.

Exeter again would turn to Ethan Lutz, as he scampered for 35 yards to put the Eagles up 26-13.

Pottsville then turned to their top playmaking tandem as Moser connected with Blankenhorn for a 60 yard touchdown.  The Tide then trailed 26-20.

Chase Yocum would add his 3rd touchdown run of the night then early in the fourth quarter, putting the Eagles back up 34-20 after a two-point conversion.

The Tide would once again try to get back in the game with a 36 yard touchdown pass from Moser to AJ Stevens.  The Tide cut the lead to 34-27, but that was as close as they would get.

Chase Yocum would find Drew Bennett on a 47 yard touchdown pass before Ethan Lutz returned a Tyler Moser interception 59 yards for a touchdown, giving the Eagles a 48-27 win.

Chase Yocum finished the game 3 for 6 passing for 133 yards and 2 touchdowns, while also rushing for 205 yards and 3 touchdowns on 21 carries.  Ethan Lutz added 59 yards rushing and an additional 86 receiving with 3 total touchdowns.

Pottsville’s Tyler Moser finished with 287 yards and 3 touchdowns on 14 of 31 passing.  Top target Travis Blankenhorn finished with 8 catches for 193 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Exeter (4-2, 7-2) will host Daniel Boone (3-3, 4-5), while Pottsville (2-4, 4-5) will host Twin Valley (0-6, 0-9).
