When the Wilson Bulldogs took the field on Friday night, they knew the task at hand. Win, and they could call themselves Lancaster-Lebanon Section 1 champions. Lose, and they would likely have to share with Penn Manor.
With emotions running high, the Bulldogs were up to the task.
The Bulldogs surrendered a touchdown to the visiting Comets on Penn Manor’s first drive on a 1 yard touchdown run by Charlie Bell.
The Comets added a second touchdown on an 8 yard QB keeper by Tanner Erisman to take a 14-0 over Wilson.
While Wilson may have been down, they were anything but deflated as scored with just over a minute left in the first half on a 6 yard run by Shane Dantzler, cutting the lead to 14-7.
Wilson’s defense didn’t budge at all in the second half, allowing just 2 first downs the entire time en route to their comeback win.
Senior QB Matt Timochenko led the Bulldogs on a scoring drive to tie the game at 14 early in the fourth quarter on an 11 yard touchdown pass to Matt Close.
After giving the ball back to the Comets, the Bulldogs defense again held strong and forced a punt.
Matt Timochenko again marched the Bulldogs downfield completing several passes to Bryce Pych before Johnny Raifsnyder took a 1 yard handoff for a touchdown, giving Wilson a 21-14 lead, which they would not relinquish.
All in all Timochenko completed 14 of 20 passes for 182 yards and a touchdown, including 112 in the second half when it mattered most. His top receiver was Bryce Pych who caught 6 passes for 99 yards. Johnny Raifsnyder led the rushing attack with 16 carries for 66 yards and a score.
The Bulldogs, who improved to (6-0, 9-0) will host Warwick (1-5, 3-6) in search of a perfect regular season.
