Mifflin Keeps Momentum Going in Win Over Reading

The Mustangs moved to 4-0 in Section 1 standing at 5-2 overall after an impressive 35-0 victory over the Red Knights of Reading High.

Wilson Fontanez found the endzone twice for the Section 1 frontrunners while compiling 68 yards rushing on 14 carries.  The Mustang defense gave Jan Johnson and the gang a short field to work with for most of the night. The Red Knights were held to seven first downs on the evening while turning the ball over 6 times.  Mifflin was a bit sloppy themselves coughing up three fumbles but a solid effort from the defense kept the shutout intact.

Julious Young-Trapp continues to be one of the most exciting playmakers in Berks County as he hauled in two passes for 54 yards. Tonight’s loss drops the Red Knights to 1-3 in the section and 2-5 overall.

Aric Dupell may grab defensive player of the week honors as he recorded two interceptions for the Mustangs. Governor Mifflin will take on Pottsville next week as they inch closer and closer to a Section 1 title. Reading will look to get back on track as they travel to Birdsboro to take on Daniel Boone.
