Governor Mifflin is probably more excited than any other team to be back in section play. Tonight marks the 21st straight Section 1 victory for the Mustangs.
The Mustangs welcomed in a very strong 5-0 Muhlenberg team who had been outscoring opponents left and right with a vicious defense.
Evan Pollock led the way in a 29-7 victory. Pollock started the game off with a bang as he took the opening kick off 99 yards for the game’s first touchdown. Not satisfied yet, he took an interception for 97 yards and another score. Mifflin’s offense wasn’t exactly stellar this evening but Pollock’s two scores and a stingy defense helped contain the Muhlmafia when they had too.
Wilson Fontanez had an impressive outing for the Mustangs with 14 carries totaling 136 yards and one score. The junior definitely helped take some pressure off of Jan Johnson, who at times caught heavy pressure from the Muhlenberg defense.
Ben Ortiz had the lone touchdown for the Muhls while carrying the ball 21 times for 106 yards.
Reid Hoff continues to be Jan Johnson’s favorite target especially in the red zone as he caught another touchdown pass in the first half.
Mifflin now stands in excellent position in Section 1 as they are 3-0 in section play and 4-2 overall. For the second straight week the Mustangs have knocked off a previously unbeaten opponent.
The loss drops Muhlenberg to 2-1 in section and 5-1 overall.
Muhlenberg will face another tough test next week as they host 5-1 Exeter. While Mifflin, who is definitely in the drive for Section 1, will travel to take on Reading High next week.
