Listed below in no particular order are a few of our candidates for Player of the Year in Section 2.
Nick Scheidt, RB/LB Schuylkill Valley, Senior
Nick Scheidt has been nothing short of impressive since week one. On the year, Scheidt has run for 1063 yards and 15 touchdowns on 174 carries, good for a 6.1 YPC average. His 6 100 yard rushing games place him 2nd in Berks County and 1st among Section 1 players. Scheidt also has 3 interceptions at his linebacker position, including one he returned for a touchdown against Pottstown.
Will Bornstein, RB Blue Mountain, Senior
Will Bornstein has had a very stellar senior season. He has really come on as of late leading the Eagles to 3 consecutive wins. On the season, Bornstein has run for 996 yards and 13 touchdowns on just 123 carries. His 8.1 yards per carry ranks 2nd in Berks County amongst players with at least 40 carries.
Michael Allen, WR/DB Fleetwood, Junior
Michael Allen has been one of the best 2-way players in Berks County this season. Allen leads all Berks Football League receivers with 32 receptions, 461 yards, and 5 touchdowns. Allen has also run for 131 yards on 15 carries. Allen also has 2 kick return touchdowns on the season, as well as an interception.
Thomas Paolini, RB/DB Wyomissing, Junior
Thomas Paolini has been the big play machine that Wyomissing desperately needed after losing nearly their State Championship roster of a year ago. Paolini has a team best of 639 yards on the ground, on just 70 carries, good for a Berks County leading 9.1 yards per carry. Paolini also leads the Spartans in receiving with 9 catches for 248 yards, an average of 27.6 yards per catch. His 11 touchdowns are among the best in all of Berks County. Thomas has also intercepted 2 passes on the season, including one he returned for a touchdown against Pleasant Valley.
Chris Warren, RB/DB Berks Catholic, Senior
Chris Warren has a team-best 13 touchdowns for Berks Catholic. He also has 426 rushing yards on 62 carries, while catching 11 passes for 230 yards. Warren is just one of 5 Saints running backs with at least 270 yards rushing. When combined with Pop Lacey, Marcus Wilson, Cooper Kutz, and Todd Reedy, the Saints have the strongest rushing attack in the county.
