Berks Football League: Mid-Season Honors

Game of the Year:  Conrad Weiser at Exeter

After each team scored a touchdown within the first minute of the game, the defenses picked it up.  Conrad Weiser held a 16-10 lead until Manny Soto broke a game winning run in the final minutes of the game to put the Eagles up 17-16.  Ethan Lutz intercepted the first Scouts pass attempt on the comeback trail, allowing Exeter to take a knee and run the clock out and move to 4-0 on the season.

Top Passing QB:  Antonieo Dominguez, Sr. Muhlenberg

Dominguez has the highest passer rating in Berks County with a 176.34 mark.  His efficiency has been brilliant completing a Berks-best 61.7% of his passes. He has also thrown for 806 yards and 5 touchdowns, with only one interception.

Top Dual-Threat QB:  Chase Yocum, Jr. Exeter

Junior quarterback Chase Yocum has been nothing short of impressive so far this season.  Yocum has thrown for 569 yards and rushed for 438 more.  He has 16 total touchdowns (3 passing, 13 rushing) to lead the way for the Eagles, who are off to a 5-1 start.

Top RB:  Ben Ortiz, Sr. Muhlenberg

Ben Ortiz rushed for over 1000 yards as a backup last season, so it should come as no surprise that he has dominated the competition this year.  Ortiz is 2nd in yardage with 791, but leads all of Berks County with 15 rushing touchdowns.  Ortiz has also rushed for over 100 yards in all 6 games thus far.

Top WR:  Michael Allen, Jr. Fleetwood

Michael Allen leads all of Berks County in receptions with 27 through just 6 games.  He has also accumulated 392 yards which is 2nd best in the Berks Football League, while hauling in a league best 5 receiving touchdowns.

Top Offensive Lineman:  Michal Menet, So. Exeter

Michal Menet has been an integral part of Exeter’s offense this season.  He has done a spectacular job keeping QB Chase Yocum upright, while also creating wide open running lanes for his backfield.

Top Defensive Lineman:  Morgan Shigo, Sr. Fleetwood

Morgan Shigo has been downright dominant on Fleetwood’s defensive line this season.  Through just 6 games, Shigo has already registered 15 sacks and over 40 tackles, both of which are best among defensive linemen in Berks County.

Top Linebacker:  Dan Techman, Sr. Twin Valley

Dan Techman leads all of Berks County with 70 tackles on the season, including 6 for a loss.  While the Raiders have struggled this season, Techman has been a pleasant surprise to many around the area.

Top Defensive Back:  Gregory Johnson, Sr. Schuylkill Valley

Gregory Johnson has been a model of consistency, intercepting a pass in 5 consecutive games for the Panthers.  The only game he did not intercept a pass in was the season opener against Pottstown.

Top Kicker:  Jake Roth, So. Conrad Weiser

Jake Roth has converted on 24 of 26 extra point attempts, as well as 5 of 6 field goal attempts.  His season long is 42 yards and his 39 points lead all kickers in the Berks Football League.
