This week Schuylkill Valley traveled to Annville-Cleona in their final contest before league play opens up. It may not have been pretty, but the Panthers brought home a victory behind Nick Scheidt’s outstanding play.
The Panthers trailed 14-7 heading into the final quarter, which is when Scheidt put the team on his back and willed them to victory. The senior was a hero on both sides of the ball, finding the endzone twice in the final quarter, and intercepting two passes. His second interception came with less than a minute to play, sealing a victory for the road warriors.
Scheidt rushed for 126 yards and two touchdowns, while Tanner White threw for 175 yards, 39 of which came on a touchdown pass to Gregory Johnson to open the first half scoring. Conner Sausser also caught 4 passes for 41 yards, to lead the Panthers in receiving.
The Panthers defense held Annville-Cleona to just 185 yards of total offense, while forcing 4 turnovers, the most important of which was the recovery of a muffed punt late in the fourth quarter, setting up Scheidt’s game winning touchdown run.
Next week, Schuylkill Valley will play host to Kutztown.
