Mifflin Takes Care of Boone in Birdsboro

By: Will Hine
Govenor Mifflin pitched a shutout of the DBHS Blazers, scoring early in the second quarter and never looking back. Led by a three-headed rushing attack, the Mustangs won 28-0. Mifflin running backs Wilson Fontanez, Aric Dupell and Bret Chambers each run in a score; and Quarterback Jan Johnson tossed an 18 yard pass to Dupell in the closing seconds of the first half to round out Mifflin’s box score. Johnson had 58 yards passing on five completions; and seven Mustangs, led by Johnson (with 70) and Fontanez (with 61) combined for 238 yards rushing.

On defense, Matt Klusewitz had a sack and Gibriel Toure returned a Nick Hughes fumble 45 yards to set the Mustangs up with excellent field position. On Daniel Boone’s side of the ball, Quarterback Nick Hughes went 8 of 13 for 58 yards. Kyle Myers led Boone in receiving and rushing yards with 20 and 59, respectively. Xavier Smith, Paul Galanti and Adam Carr were Hughes other targets during the contest. Darius Hinton led the Blazers’ defense with 3 tackles in the backfield, for a combined Mifflin loss of 8 yards. The Players of the game were Jan Johnson for Mifflin, who totaled 158 yards of offense; and Kyle Myers who led the Blazers with 79 total yards.

Mifflin gets to 2-2 on the season and will take on 4-0 exeter next week. While Boone drops to 1-3 and will travel to take on the Conrad Weiser Scouts next week.
