When the season began, head coach James Martinez set a Fleetwood team goal: set a school record for wins (4). The Tigers are half way there already, after a dominant 52-7 win over Hamburg.
The Tigers were able to capitalize on several Hamburg turnovers, including a 37 yard fumble return for a touchdown by two-way star Tyler Emge. The Tigers had 2 defensive touchdowns and 2 safeties. Emge also rushed for 77 yards on 16 carries and caught a 55 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Zach Koenig.
Koenig completed 14 of 23 attempts for 175 yards and 2 touchdowns. Catching 6 passes each were Michael Allen (83 yards, 1 TD) and Nate Webb (33 yards).
Matt Hook was perfect on the evening scoring 12 points (2 FG, 6 PAT).
Hamburg, who came into the game at 3-0, has been through two straight weeks of turmoil off the field. The distractions will not help numb the blowout loss to a divisional opponent.
Nicholas Kuhn got the start at QB for the second consecutive week, following Joey Cominsky’s suspension. It is unclear at this point how much longer he will be sidelined, but according to multiple reports, he has been practicing with the team.
Kuhn completed 4 of his 8 pass attempts for just 38 yards. Meanwhile, Ian Hamilton, who enjoyed a breakout performance last week, gained 75 yards on 20 carries.
Next week Fleetwood (1-1, 2-2) will host Schuylkill Valley (1-0, 4-0). The Hawks (0-1, 3-1) will head to Kutztown (0-1, 0-4).
