If there was any doubt that Fleetwood was a threat in Section 2 of the Berks Football League, Coach James Martinez and his team put those thoughts to rest on Saturday night. With the bright lights shining over Fleetwood’s homecoming game, the Tigers proved their worth defeating previously unbeaten Schuylkill Valley by a score of 31-7.
It was the second consecutive week that the Tigers handed their opponent their first loss of the season.
Things started off pretty shaky for the Tigers when Schuylkill Valley QB Tanner White found his favorite target Tanner Mish for a 46 yard touchdown on the left sideline, putting the Panthers up 7-0. However, that was the only time Schuylkill Valley would score all night.
The Tigers tied things up at 7-7 early in the 2nd quarter when Zach Koenig found Michael Allen in the back corner of the endzone for a 10 yard touchdown. Just a short time after, Allen intercepted a Tanner White pass. Following a drive, Tyler Emge scored his first of 3 touchdowns on the night, to take the lead 14-7.
Fleetwood never looked back. Koenig had an incredible night passing the ball completing 17 of 22 attempts for 219 yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, Tyler Emge carried 39 times for 214 yards (School Record) and 3 scores. Junior Michael Allen had 7 catches for 83 yards and a touchdown.
The Fleetwood defense held Schuylkill Valley star Nick Scheidt to just 78 yards rushing on 21 attempts, and possibly more impressive, they kept him out of the endzone, which is no small task.
Fleetwood (2-0, 3-2) hopes to set a new school record for wins when they travel to Northern Lebanon (2-3) next week. Schuylkill Valley (1-1, 4-1) will head to Berks Catholic (1-0, 5-0) in our BerksIC.com Co-Game of the Week.
