The Mustangs high expectations for the 2013 season may have to be put on hold for awhile, especially after a 59-7 thumping at the hands of the Eagles.
Mifflin had beaten Cocalico three straight years by a combined score of 73-39. However, it would be the visiting Eagles that would leave Shillington with a resounding win this evening. The Mustangs gave up over 340 yards rushing, and conceded twice as many first downs as they gained. Mifflin struggled to get anything going offensively, being held to just 170 total yards the evening.
The defending Section One champs were riding high after last week’s impressive shutout victory over Lancaster Catholic, but Cocalico’s dominant performance tonight could put a damper on Mifflin’s expectations moving forward. Cocalico finished off its rampage through Berks County with tonight’s dominant victory, to go along with victories against Boone and Reading high in weeks 1 and 2, respectively.
Mifflin still has a chance to redeem its season with league play starting next week as they travel to Birdsboro to take on Daniel Boone. The Blazers fell to Manheim this evening, ensuring that next week’s contest should be a tight one, as both teams look to get back on the winning track.
