Kutztown senior Gillian Ryan continued her strong run at the U.S. Open Swimming Championships in Irvine, CA with her second gold medal Wednesday.
Ryan, swimming for North Baltimore Aquatic Club (same club Michael Phelps trains with), took gold in the 400-meter freestyle event with a time of 4:07.87.
Ryan was seeded first for the event and finished third in the preliminary race with a time of 4:11.49.
On Tuesday, Ryan brought home her first gold in a thrilling finish over Sarah Henry in the 800 free. She finished with a time of 8:25.57 and edged Henry by 82/100th of a second (0:00.82).
Ryan will continue her run at the U.S. Open championships later this week. She will compete in the 200 free Friday and 1500 free Saturday. Ryan is seeded first in the 1500 and fifth in the 200.
Berks alums: Penn State junior Nate Savoy (Wilson) finished 26th in the 200 backstroke and failed to qualify for the final. He had a time of 2:03.30. Teammate Caitlyn Karr (Wilson) finished 73rd in the 400 free with a time of 4:29.59.
