The Hamburg Hawks look to soar on offense this season. In 2012, the Hawks looked too sore on offense.
Joey Cominsky threw for over 1,400 yards and 15 touchdowns in his breakout sophomore season in 2011, but missed all of his junior campaign due to injury. Now a senior, Cominsky will be under center for 2013 and will certainly be looking to put the 2012 season behind him.
The transition back to starting quarterback will certainly be aided by the fact that Cominsky has two 1,000 yard rushers in the backfield. The senior tandem of Joey Raffensperger (1,006 yards and 12 TD’s) and Montay Berger (1,157 yards and 13 TD’s) will hope to be the same thunder and lightning combination they were last season for the Hawks.
Leading the way in the trenches for Hamburg is Blake Roberts. The senior could get serious consideration for the All-Berks team. The Hawks also return Cody Miller, their leading receiver, for his senior season.
Hamburg allowed over 32 points per game in 2012, which is a mark needed to improve upon if they hope to have a winning record this season (3-4, 4-7 in 2012).
The Hawks have several returning impact players on the defensive side of the ball. In addition to being the Hawks top receiver, Miller will suit up on defense once again. He had 90 tackles and 3.5 sacks in 2012.
Miller will be joined by fellow seniors Raffensberger (56 tackles) and Blake Roberts (78 tackles). Senior defensive lineman Josh Kisha and Pat Barter will look to be a nightmare for any opposing quarterback.
The Hawks must improve their secondary to stop the passing attacks in Section 2. Berger returns at cornerback and will lead the defensive backfield.
Senior kicker Tyler Seidel returns for Hamburg. The Hawks should be strong on special teams as Seidel converted 20 of 26 extra points. He will likely garner consideration for the All-Berks team this year.
