Twin Valley will welcome Garden Spot to their home field in Elverson on Friday. It will be the first game of the Steve Gaunt era at Twin Valley. Gaunt, a former Daniel Boone assistant took over at the conclusion of last season.
Last season was a forgettable one for Raiders fans as the team went 0-10. This season, Gaunt will just be looking to get his team in the win column as they rebuild this program. It will also be the final season for Twin Valley in Section 1 of the Berks Football League. Next fall they will drop down to Section 2, which will benefit them as a AAA school.
Last fall, the Raiders fell to Garden Spot 27-6 in their season opener.
Garden Spot went on to run the tables in the Lancaster-Lebanon Section 3 before losing in the playoffs to Manheim Central.
This year’s Raiders team will likely be led by Alex Rank at quarterback. Rank, a sophomore, took over the job last season as a freshman. They also return Nigel Hill at RB. Hill was third on the team in rushing, as well as first in receptions and receiving yards.
For Garden Spot, things will be smooth sailing as they return QB Mitch Martin for his junior season. Last year as a sophomore, Martin passed for over 1100 yards and 15 TDs. Martin also ran for 632 yards and 10 TDs. He will be the Spartans biggest weapon this fall.
Mitch Martin’s favorite target, Cevaughn Caldwell will be back for his senior season as well. Caldwell figures to be a major contributor on both sides of the ball.
Prediction: Garden Spot 41, Twin Valley 13
